Statutory holiday
—

How is statutory holiday entitlement calculated?

Almost every worker in Great Britain is entitled to 5.6 weeks of paid leave a year. Multiply the days you work each week by 5.6: five days gives 28, three days gives 16.8. The cap is 28 days. Bank holidays can count towards this unless your contract says they are extra.

If your hours vary, leave builds up at 12.07% of hours worked. Pay for that leave is covered in the Overtime Pay and Pro Rata Salary calculators.

Frequently asked questions

How many days holiday do I get part time?

Multiply your weekly working days by 5.6. Three days a week gives 16.8 days, four days gives 22.4.

Do bank holidays count as part of annual leave?

They can. The statutory 5.6 weeks may include bank holidays unless your contract says otherwise, so 28 days may mean 20 plus 8 bank holidays.

How is holiday worked out for zero-hours contracts?

Under the accrual method you earn 12.07% of the hours you work as paid leave, e.g. 1,000 hours worked earns about 121 hours of holiday.
