How is exact age calculated?

Exact age isn't just "days lived ÷ 365" — that drifts wrong over a lifetime because of leap years. This calculator counts whole calendar years first, then whole remaining months, then whatever days are left, the same way you'd count it by hand on a calendar, which correctly handles every month's different length and each leap year's extra day along the way. It also tracks total weeks and days lived, and how long until your next birthday.

Frequently asked questions

How is exact age calculated in years, months and days?

Starting from your birth date, whole years are counted first, then whole remaining months, then whatever days are left over — accounting for different month lengths and leap years, which is why it's more involved than a simple date subtraction.

Why do age calculations need to account for leap years?

Because February has an extra day roughly every 4 years, a naive "days ÷ 365" calculation drifts slightly wrong over a lifetime — counting whole calendar years and months directly, as this calculator does, avoids that drift entirely.

Can this calculate age on a specific past or future date?

This version calculates your age as of today. For age on a specific other date — like a contract or eligibility deadline — the same year/month/day counting method applies, just measured to that date instead.
